It is possible to train your mind for sleep. Some people have unhelpful beliefs about sleeping. This script gives them a routine to use before going to sleep. Repetition increases its power. Use this short routine to practice every night until it becomes a habit, and you will train yourself to go to sleep.
This script is for an individual to use when they feel that they cannot relax to get to sleep. It is a modified hypnotic induction. You can give it to your clients as a recording for them to play each night as they wait for sleep.

|Now forget everything you ever thought you knew about sleep. No one can tell when they are about to go to sleep and no one can will themselves to sleep. You cannot sneak up on it, or trick it into happening. All you can do is prepare your body to receive sleep, to set up the circumstances for sleep to happen. Sleep is a point that moves along a line stretching from fully awake to deeply unconscious. You go from being ten percent asleep to twenty then thirty percent… there is no moment of dropping into sleep. You go into gradually. It feels like an instant thing only because your mind does not remember the ten percent part.||Remove assumptions about how to go to sleep|
|Close your eyes. Relax your shoulders. Now become aware of where your legs are… where your arms are…..the position of your body…|
|Become aware of the space around your body… how you are lying…|
|take in a deep breath and let it go… and another deep breath…|
